Queen Anne reigns in many of the original elements remaining in an updated 1906 Houston Heights cottage and its lookalike shingle-tipped garage. They share a short-sheeted lot across from Harvard Elementary School and a bit north of the hike-and-bike trail. Listed Monday, the property is asking $294,600.

The listing pegs the home’s footprint at 1,003 sq. ft., but HCAD indicates 935 sq. ft. and shows a 2005 remodeling. Changes in the millwork between rooms highlight some updates, which include French doors and a double-door closet in this porch-accessible tilt-topped space at the back of the house:
Finishes and features in the straight-shot kitchen showcase a bit of time travel:
The floor plan has 2 bedrooms:
Renovations to the sole bathroom at some point crafted a totally tiled, (mostly) walk-in shower as an alternative to the claw-foot tub:
A side-saddle porch looks east across the 3,000-sq.-ft. lot’s pebble patch of a patio, ringed by bricks and bushes:
The home last sold in 2009, for $259,000.

Why is there a small mirror in the kitchen, what am I missing? Seems so out of place.
Please, let this lovely house continue to live. Hope the small lot size saves it.
Based on the current market in the Heights and the asking price, this looks like a great deal to me. I would assume it will be pending within a day or two…
Nice.
I like the butcher block counters; so much nicer than yet more granite.
Nothing annoys me more than the mixing and matching of doors in a renovated house. 6 panel doors do not go with 3 panel doors. They DO however, show that you cut corners, as 6 panel doors are ubiquitous at Home Depot.
