The old Westheimer Wendy’s has been reduced to a shell of itself, this photo shows, as Doc’s Bar and Grill has come all the way from Austin to build itself up. Located at 1303 Westheimer and Graustark — right beside the overflow parking lot for Royal Oak Bar and Grill, which is right across the street — Doc’s says in a Facebook post that this 3rd location could open in November.

  • Thanks!! I have been wondering what was going on here. I am glad to see the nightlife continue to grow in a walkable area.

  • Love that Doc’s on South Congress. Hope they can create the same vibe (and food and drink).

  • That Wendy’s was such an eyesore. Glad to see it go!

  • Love Doc’s Motorworks in Austin! Great food and great place to watch sports. Excited to have it come to Houston finally.

  • They need to make sure they can park all their patrons. Royal Oak patrons are already taking up most of the street parking on Graustark, so this will push more cars in to the neighborhood. They should make a deal to make a nice “donation” to the Charity Guild Shop who has three parking lots across the street they don’t use at night. Revenue for the charity and parking for Doc’s equals win/win. It’s a great upgrade from the Wendy’s, glad to have it. Just be sensitive to the neighborhood.

  • Just be sensitive to the neighborhood?

    This is Houston.

  • Another Austin place invading Houston? I’m sure this sucker will have all the Austin garb/crap all over the walls too just like all the “creek” places. Too bad, this was a prime spot for a local watering hole owned by folks who know Houston and aren’t going to try and Austin-ise another cool Houston hood.

  • I miss the Wendy’s already….

  • KJ, is there some magical mysterious essence of Houston that a person from Austin couldn’t possibly understand? Or vice versa?

Inner loop Houston is just like inner (loopless) Austin. Suburban Houston is just like suburban Austin. You can rest assured that Doc’s, designed to appeal to the South Congress crowd in Austin, will also adequately accommodate the unique needs and wants of the Montrose crowd.

  • It’s mostly the attitude that comes with a place like this. We live in Houston, not Austin. Throwing up signs like ‘South Congress’, ‘Barton Springs’, and pictures of local Austin celebrities such as Leslie etc etc just to me seems very pompous. To me, its like saying “Houston has no history or culture compared to Austin, so we’re gonna throw Austin culture all over this place to show you how great Austin is”, when in actuality Houston, and Montrose more specifically is chock full of history. Houston is awesome. I had the pleasure of living in Austin as well at one point and it certainly has some cool spots, but what do you think people in Austin would say if a Houston place were to come in, and throw Houston garb all over their place of business? I have a feeling people in Austin wouldn’t get it.

  • “Inner loop Houston is just like inner (loopless) Austin. Suburban Houston is just like suburban Austin.”

    Bullshit.

“You can rest assured that Doc’s, designed to appeal to the South Congress crowd in Austin, will also adequately accommodate the unique needs and wants of the Montrose crowd.”

    Keyword being “adequately.”
