Comment of the Day Runner-Up: Houston Tourists, You’re Wasting Your Time

COMMENT OF THE DAY RUNNER-UP: HOUSTON TOURISTS, YOU’RE WASTING YOUR TIME “yeah i’ve noticed tourists downtown the last few years. mostly taking pics along Main of buildings and cops on horseback. i’ve also seen what appear to be tour groups with guides in the tunnels which seems like kind of a lame vacation activity if you ask me.” [spiteful, commenting on Headlines: Cheaper Hotels for Convention Center District; A Gilley’s Revival in Pasadena]

  • The other day I saw some folks standing at Texas and Main, pointing up at the buildings and taking pictures while oooh-and-aaah-ing. Is this what it feels like to live in New York?

  • Many Houstonians are ignorant about the fact that Houston downtown has an exquisite collection of 20th century architecture, and not a few people visit Houston just because of its architectural gems.

  • Yes, the AIA & Preservation Society offer tours of downtown quite frequently. I have been on several – very interesting.

  • A weekend evening B-cycle rental is a great way to spend a couple of hours admiring downtown’s architecture. With the sun low and the wide streets largely free of cars, it’s cool, relaxing, and safe. I recommend it to everyone.

  • I agree with Larry, there are some exquisite buildings here. I still marvel at them.

  • I saw a group at GRB excitedly taking pictures of the cops on horses. They were speaking Spanish and the best the cop could do was ask “So yall here for some kinda soccer tournament…” :/

  • @Rex: the soccer played in Spain is the best in the world at the present time, e.g. Barça. BTW, any brit will undoubtedly agree w/this statement.. ;)
