Here’s the new view looking left as you exit the back front door of the Apple Store in Highland Village. The long-promised Cupcake ATM at the back of Sprinkles is all ready for its grand opening tomorrow at 4014 Westheimer. Why buy cupcakes from a glorified vending machine when you can walk in the store and have one handed to you by a real live person?

Well, the walkup, which faces the back parking lot, will be open 24 hours, 7 days a week, every day of the year, the company promises. Plus, if you . . . uh, bank there tomorrow, you may find one of a promised 100 “golden tickets” — each redeemable for up to 5 dozen cupcakes — hidden in some of the dispensed boxes. Also new, but inside the store only: Sprinkles ice cream, cookies, and brownies.

Well, now we know where the next hotspot for selfies in Houston will be!
(So this Apple Store “back front door” — is that functionally equivalent to what other buildings call a “back entrance”?)
It really bugs me that they are calling this a “cupcake ATM.” Cupcake automated teller machine? That doesn’t make any sense. Your article correctly states that this a vending machine. “Cupcake machine” a la “coke machine” is cuter and more accurate.
Also cupcakes are overrated.
anon, even “cupcake machine” would eventually lead to cupcake vending machine which is exactly the association they’re trying to refute by using the ATM terminology. Vending machines are low class, something to use when stuck too long at the BMW dealership, whereas ATMs are something more familiar and void of class associations.
Jeez, anon….. I’d hate to see what a rainbow and a pony ride would do to your mood.
So gross on so many levels…and I knowingly eat hormone chicken, to give a reference point.
According to Sprinkles social media pages Dwight Howard will be using the cupcake machine..ATM? ;) this morning…….
sprinklescupcakes@DwightHoward is teaming up with Sprinkles to kick off the launch of #icecream, #cookies and the #CupcakeATM in Houston. To celebrate, we are donating $10,000 to @officialD12Foundation!
Date: June 11, 2015
Time: 9-9:45 am
Location: Sprinkles Houston, 4014 Westheimer Road
This would be good news if their cupcakes weren’t so oily.
Yes, the real question is, “Why buy cupcakes from a glorified vending machine when you can walk in the store and have one handed to you by a real live person?” I recently traveled to Europe and to Belgium, the chocolate capital of the world where store owners took so much pride in their work and more importantly the artistry and presentation of the product they were selling. It was such a pleasure to be served and indulge in their delectable treats. Thus, cannot fathom driving up and being served cupcakes from a machine!
Someday, when Wes Anderson films Rushmore 2: The Rerushening, the cupcake ATM will be prominently featured.
looks like some kind of back alley where sugar junkies can get the fix 24/7 and still be in denial thinking they’re upscale and hip….no doubt a rehab facility/fitness center is or will pop up nearby.
Luz- Because stores that sell cupcakes aren’t open late at night.
Well Toby, since I”m not 12, neither of those things would really improve my mood.
@JoeDirt: I think the new trend is an adjacent dialysis center. South Post Oak has one right next to the McDonalds now.
Don’t you think there’s some minimum wage salaried person really putting the cupcakes in the slot?!
@ Colleen, you’re right. There really is nothing new under the sun, it’s just a pink automat. Manufactured by Horn and Hardart I’d bet.
