THE END COMING FOR MARFRELESS IN RIVER OAKS And the low-light, low-key make-out den behind that signless blue door in the River Oaks Shopping Center says it’s closing at the end of March in a press release quoted here in the Houston Chronicle: “Marfreless’s owners have been trying to do whatever they could to keep the bar operational but other entities involved weren’t budging in regards to the rising cost of doing business, making it impossible to keep the business at this location.” Serving martinis and discreetly turning the other way as couples have gone at it for 40 years, Marfreless says it’s looking for another location. if those walls could talk
This business closing brought to you by the good folks at Weingarten Realty !
Weingarten’s is doing its best to stuccofy the whole center, then bring in nothing but national chains where no one has any desire to shop. What a waste.
Don’t forget about that “Big Announcement” that is supposed to come out this year. Now there is one less tenant in the building, thus making it easier to demolish.
I got it, the big news it that they are building a Wal-Mart in that location! it all makes sense now
Bad bad bad.
One of the best, funkiest places in Htown. If you were on a weird date, going there was guaranteed to make it weirder.
I groped and was groped here in the late 80’s and early ’90s. It was always an added bonus if you got to see an impaired couple underneath the stairwell that thought they were invisible.
It’s gonna take a lot of Purell…
I’ve have many interesting times there and seen many crazy goings on at that place
Ohhh Houston. What is happening to thee?
