Courtesy of a smartphone-bearing reader, here’s the scene from this morning on the often-quiet Montrose corner of Harold and Mulberry, directly across the street from the Bering Memorial United Methodist Church. The single-story brick bungalow dating from 1938 at 1502 Harold St. is a goner. Croix Homes has a permit to build a new house on the site.

Crushed in Montrose
Started at 0900 and totally down by 2. A couple of big limbs from Oak and pecan tree knocked down. Nice job avoiding messing up cable line or my next door house garage or driveway.
Whats up with the drive by demo pics lately?
Hoping to win the lottery and score one of these bungalows before they’re all gone.
I did a double take when I ran by at 5. I was like…”something has changed” but couldn’t quite put my finger on it.
@DarbyMom Unfortunately, this one was poorly maintained. It just doesn’t make sense to spend hundreds of thousands to fix it up with the lot alone is probably worth $500,000.

Skeptic. I noticed the old abandon four plex directly behind, facing Hawthorne, is being remodeled. Looks like some of these properties, make sense to put money into.
@Jeff. House was a dump–looked to be occupied by a semi hoarder. Little maintenence done and some cheesy additions had been made. I hate Croix but this will be an improvement. As far as Hawthorne 4 plex is concerned, who knows when, or if, that will ever be finished.
Nothing is impossible my friends, people here just have very little appreciation for anything old.
