BARNABY’S CAFE IS COMING TO THE HEIGHTS The spot at 2802 White Oak Dr. from which City Oven and before that D’Amico’s Italian Market Cafe departed will soon be home to the seventh location of Barnaby’s Cafe, reports the Chronicle‘s David Kaplan. Landlord Revive Development produced the mockup of a Barnaby’s sign on the building pictured above. Revive’s Bryan Danna tells Kaplan Barnaby’s signed a lease for the 3,300-sq.-ft. space earlier this month and expects to open by the end of the year. [Houston Chronicle] Photo: Revive Development
This one may just work here. If it doesn’t, I don’t see any hope for any restaurant in that space.
good luck getting a parking spot!!
it’s hard to believe that 9 years ago i refused to even consider buying in the Heights b/c of it’s lack of restaurants. now it’s got tons of solid choices (like this) and some really unique great places. things change quickly in h-town.
Parking shouldn’t be a problem… West Gray location is just as bad. They will probably get a good bit of biker/walkers there.
Barnabys in Montrose has way less parking than here and it is always packed. They will be fine.
Parking spot(s), exactly. That has been the biggest issue at that location, especially on a game weekend when the crowd from Christian’s monopolizes the lot.
I know that Barnaby’s patio is dog friendly. However, I do wonder if it will be hipster friendly, hopefully so.
Great news. Best possible tenant for that space I think.
Good to live within a 5 minute walk of here…
Parking is fine though, especially at the brunching hour. Way better than the other locations.
it’s hard to believe that 9 years ago i refused to even consider buying in the Heights b/c of it’s lack of restaurants. REALLY………….
oh. hellz. yeah.
@htownproud; I bet you’re kicking yourself for that decision today. Considering today’s prices, Heights homes were a frickin’ steal back then.
CB, yes really. Recall that in 2005 there were very few dining and bar options in the Heights (see, e.g., the HAIF thread on it). The Creeks were just catching on, which was something, but there wasn’t much else. I was in my 20’s then, and I wasn’t going to buy somewhere that I was going to have to drive everywhere. (Of course the Heights had the problems of crime and schools back then as well, but I didn’t care as much about those.)
For the life of me I can’t figure out why this place is popular, the food is nothing special, in fact it’s thunderously mediocre.
(Of course the Heights had the problems of crime and schools back then as well, but I didn’t care as much about those.)
Really…………….
Oh yeah, 2005. The wild old days of the Heights. Yup.
That’s great. I’ll bet this location will have parking, too – unlike the Fairview location.
With so much money to open all of these new places, you’d think the Barnaby’s folks would care enough about their neighbors (and customers) around their original location.
All of the other popular restaurants in that area have. Sadly, Barnaby’s has demonstrated that congestion, confusion, accidents, and back-ups in their neighborhood aren’t a big concern.
@commonsense: Food’s always highly subjective so if you don’t get why any restaurant is popular it’s probably just time to move on to what you do get. I like Barnaby’s burgers and that’s really all the I ever order from their menu.
@Takeshi: Yes. The burger and fries at the Fairview location is one of the best in town. (The other locations not so much.) That brownie with ice cream is also good.
@htownproud….problems with crime and schools 9 years ago? AND you can’t drive to a restaurant? you might consider an assisted living community! oh but you are too young for that. Crime was not RAMPANT 9 years ago in the Heights…and the schools are exactly the same….residents can get comfortable sending kids to schools in the neighborhood, or can opt for Private Schools like the bulk of the inner loopers do. My kid managed to work the Magnet/Vanguard program in HISD and we were able to pick her school.. ….the influx of restaurants is great…but whether they admit it or not, most Heights residents still get in their car and drive to restaurants and shopping…just like most other people and neighborhoods. A shame you missed the pricing of 9 years ago….it really is a great area to live in….then and now!
SNAP…………..
BTW….. It’s OPEN! I’m here now! THANK GOD FOR GOOD FOOD IN THE HEIGHTS FINALLY. FYI: The beer & wine is gratis at the moment ( with purchase of a meal of course ).
