Last call came for the Mimosa Lane Apartments a couple of months ago — residents of the 1960 garden apartment complex in Avalon Place (along with those of its neighbor, the Argonne Forest Apartments) were given notice in early October of an end-of-November clear-out. That was apparently plenty of time to get word out about a goodbye party or 2.

A touring Swamplot reader, who sends in these pics from in and around the complex at 2415 Mimosa Ln. (including the one graffitied unit pictured here), notes there’s water leaking from pipes, and “general debris” strewn about the emptied-out property, which appears to be slated for demolition.
The 30-something-unit complex on three-quarters of an acre was sold to an entity calling itself Mimosa Commons earlier this month.

This is very sad, but I’ll take Pelican over almost anyone else who builds in the area. Hopefully they can put up something tasteful like they did in the Mid Lane area.
Interesting. Many times people who buy these places will allow companies to sell off the “innards” before demo. We’ve gone into properties like this before demo and bought light fixtures, sinks, mailboxes, doors, supply lines, etc. Guess they decided not to do that. Sucks, as it’s the ultimate recycle.
The graffitied apartment was done by a tenant who had lived there for several years and the Building Management had given her permission to do the graffiti. She was one of the last residents to vacate the premises. We were told that they (the owners) would be tearing down all the buildings and replacing them with individually owned townhomes. Whether that ends up being the case remains to be seen. As far as leaking pipes…well, I lived there for over 10 years and there was always issues with the plumbing.
Hey Cody, I’ll speak to the cheapness of most of the fixtures, it does look like they saved the appliances (presumably they took the ceiling fans, too). Our walls were so curved we couldn’t put up shelving, the ceiling had caved in on one of the second floor units, and I saw mold in the one across the landing. We never had plumbing issues, but the unit that shared a wall with us did. I loved that complex, but it was so very far gone. Maybe I’ll have a wall of windows again someday… (sigh)
