Into the Heart of Houston Real Estate

INTO THE HEART OF HOUSTON REAL ESTATE A short note appears on the Google Map NPR Morning Edition co-host Steve Inskeep is using to keep track of his multi-day visit here: “We met with the developer of the Ashby, a controversial new condo building that is slated to replace the Maryland Manor building.” [Google Maps; previously on Swamplot]

  • Slated may be a good word to use since the developers are now planning to get the original design approved complete with the “chi-chi” mini-mart, maybe they should put in a mini-Central Market or a mini-Whole Foods which would probably result in half the homeowners pulling their names off the petition to stop it, and of course if they wait too long and Annise Parker or Peter Brown manage to get elected mayor, the developers may once again be facing the “big bad wolf” who will huff and puff and try to blow the monster hirise down again.

  • It’ll never happen. It’d cannibalize market share.
Plus, the NIMBYs cannot be pleased; they’d probably just complain about increased traffic if any significant retail were brought to the site, no matter how nice it were.
