Near Waugh and Allen Parkway, a Bit of a Stretch for a Parking Garage

Wortham Tower Parking Garage, American General Center, 2919 Allen Pkwy., North Montrose, Houston

A banner for Manhattan Construction is flying on the side of the Wortham Tower parking garage, just south of the Wortham Tower itself at 2919 Allen Pkwy. The company is adding on a few floors of parking to the massive structure. A Swamplot reader sent in these views, taken from the adjacent parking lot for the Whole Foods Market on Waugh Dr.

  • This is actually the America Tower garage. Three levels are being added in stages to both ends of the garage,

  • I’m imagining a bunch of cars singing The Jeffersons theme song…..

  • I wonder if there are plans for new additional office buildings on the property?

  • Work in AIG. No new buildings just busy putting more people in cubicles. Hopefully they will re-stripe both garages as the parking spaces are very small.

  • It’s an exceptionally well-located development. I have always been puzzled by how they are underbuilding the back of the parcel with the Whole Foods and those crapola wood apartments that burned down. Why didn’t they put some offices or housing on top of the Whole Foods?

  • Wortham tower is the taller original building in the back of the photo at 2727 Allen parkway. The 2 smaller buildings to the left which came later are the Riviana and American towers.

  • Yes, they have indeed restriped the spaces and made them larger in this garage. Never thought I’d see that happen in any parking garage anywhere.
