Any foray into the Woodlake Forest community from South Gessner near Briar Forest Dr. likely passes by blocks of 1978-built townhomes that include this slightly recessed 2-bedroom unit peeking out from behind Orleansian iron grille barricades at the porch and balcony levels. Polished marble and parquet flooring give it a gloss finish downstairs. The spiffed-up property was listed Wednesday with a $298,500 asking price.

Decorative glass adds formality to the south-facing foyer, also home to the powder room (above) and wall-hugging twist-turn staircase. Might there have been another railing there at some point — or was the partial post always a wall sculpture?

The updated-surfaces kitchen, located across from the dining area, has a straight-shot layout that culminates in a laundry room at one end:

Carpeted in a field of flowers, the master bedroom gets a small balcony (and a set of bi-fold doors) overlooking the stairwell:

A small side room currently holds workout equipment but can be reconverted into a closet or a study, the listing assures:

In the other bedroom, which is at the front of the unit, there’s no access to the balcony outside the windows; it’s only decorative.

Out back, a small brick patio separates the back of the unit from its 2-car garage . . .

which has access off a road serving another section of the subdivision. There’s also this shady commons behind the garage:

Other community amenities include a “courtesy patrol,” cable, and recreational facilities. There’s a $1,900 annual maintenance fee. An open house is scheduled for Sunday afternoon.

  • It’s cheap because it’s literally on the wrong side of the bayou if schools matter to you. North of bayou are three of the highest rated public schools in town and south you get Lee High School…. LEE HIGH SCHOOL!!!!!
