What Could Possibly Take the Place of Chicken N Egg Roll?

A hungry reader writes in wanting to know about the new concrete-block building going up at 2802 S. Shepherd, just across Harold St. from the Houston Wine Merchant. Half of the lot is the site of the former Chicken N Egg Roll. Because the neighboring house on Harold was carted away, the new lot is twice as deep.

I have confirmed that it is a commercial establishment, but can’t find any additional info. Do you know? It looks too small to be a restaurant, but one can hope . . .

Here’s one clue our reader will be happy to hear: The original demolition report from last April listed the owner or occupant of the property as Toyama Japanese Restaurant.

  • I’m sure sure the people living next to this are thrilled.

  • Yeah, even the most enthusiastic sushi-phile doesn’t want to live next to the sushi restaurant dumpster

  • I love sushi and all, but this is my ‘hood and it’s not like we don’t have PLENTY of sushi options already. Oh well, pass the sake.

  • oh yes, The Fish Smell – so hard to remove from the plastic trash can.

  • Why do people who buy property next to unrestricted property or across the street from unrestricted property always complain about what the unrestricted property is used for? If you want zoning, demand it be put on the ballot.

In the meantime, well, know the expression STFU?

And after the voters reject zoning again, well, know the expression STFU?

The pretentious ones among us already have stuck us all with a bill for a lawsuit over 1717 Bissonnet. The bill should be paid for by the pretentious ones. Not by the taxpayers who last time it was on the ballot voted NO to zoning.

  • Matt, STFU.

  • Why should I? We live in a city with no zoning. Some don’t like that. So they pull strings on politicians to artificially create zoning. It will be interesting to see what the courts do with the question. The attorney representing Buckhead Partners is not some little gun. He’s a big gun in the area of eminent domain.

Maybe what Southampton and Boulevard Oaks should do is find a way to incorporate themselves as a city. If left to the rest of us, we would overwhelmingly approve it. So our tax dollars would not go to their having to defend their pulling their strings with the politicians.

  • I live right behind Zake, and my good friend lives right behind aka Sushi House. Neither of us have ever had problems with “fish smell.” But I agree, we already have lots of sushi options… maybe this new place will be a less expensive alternative to most of them.

I’m fairly certain those two neighborhoods bring in a lot more tax revenue than they take out.

Can we take a vote to incorporate you into another site?
