Additional Amazing Details from the Memorial Plaza House of More, Back on the Market for $2.25 Million

12930 Memorial Dr., Memorial Plaza, Houston

12930 Memorial Dr., Memorial Plaza, HoustonA new listing features a new set of decorative delights gleaned from the interior of a Swamplot-reader Memorial Plaza favorite. Put on sale for a spell in 2011 at $1.5 million (without success), the big-windowed stucco home just outside the Beltway at 12930 Memorial Dr. returned to the market over this past weekend at a more au courant price of $2.25 million, accompanied by a set of what appear to be hastily snapped cameraphone photos — which, for the most part, do little justice to the many splendors of its occasionally indescribable furnishings. To appreciate the interior tableau in all its rococo, you’d likely have to tour this spread yourself. Imagine that all the luscious decor featured in the previous listing is still intact, though, and that this new set of snaps merely adds depth to your sense of discovery — maybe that’ll help you get the full picture?

From the exterior, the shiny, balloon-on-a-string windows glimmer in the daylight:

The house measures 5,865 sq. ft., not including a separate 1,000-sq.-ft. garage apartment in back. The garage has space for 3 cars, but the listing boasts there’s room for a full 16 cars inside the driveway gate, including 9 under a carport.

  • Oh the horror! Speakable horror!

  • I’m not sure I understand people’s love of the palapa. They are surprisingly expensive and quite ugly.

  • I say this without sarcasm: Teardown.

  • There better be a damn good allowance for remodeling.

  • I have passed by that house several times over the years and have always thought it was hideous from the outside. I’m not surprised that it is even more hideous and tacky on the inside.

  • I can attest to the 16 car comment. They fill the place up with cars, trucks, huge motorhomes, boats, etc. What I have never understood is how this place can be in compliance with Memorial Plaza deed restrictions. They continually place huge amounts of trash on the curb in violation of not only proper human conduct but in violation of city trash codes. They just don’t care about anyone but them selves.

  • It’s just as horrifying as I’d always dreamed! Tear it down!

  • …proof that having lots of money does not equate to having good taste…

  • I thought all this stuff was sold at the Michael Brown estate auction…

  • O M Gaudy !

  • I did not know this house from Swamplot, but just happened to drive by it last Saturday. My jaw literally dropped when I gazed upon its beauty.

  • Well, this right here is the big test.
We are now experiencing a market in which Everything WILL Sell.
    Even this place?

  • All I can think is that the owner watched Scarface one too many times and said to him/herself, “Aha! Inspiration – my future home hath found thee.” And thus Memorial Drive ended up with this and has never been quite the same since.

  • Are those the missing 4′ tall Tikis from Lei Low in the second to last picture?

  • Dang! I could just kick myself not scooping this place up when it was only $1.5 mil.

  • I don’t even have to know these people to, know these people. Cletus Ray and Wanda Jean from
Jasper, who somehow lucked into some money (lottery) and have spent it all on kegs of Dr Pepper and Funions and kitchy tacky crap for the house along with a fleet of pick ups, 4 wheelers, and Sea Do’s. Alas, now the money is all gone and it’s back to the double wide in the Piney Woods. So sad, sniff*

  • if they were going for jaw-dropping then they certainly made it. wonder if a lot of the personal touches are due to a resident painter. there’s just so much of it and it’s all so…..

but more importantly, this makes me wonder why america hasn’t jumped on a Millionaire Hoarders show. now that could be some awesome television.

  • I thought it was a gypsy camp.

  • I vaguely remember this is the house that has a gun safe nestled in one of the front windows. I always thought that might not be the best place for your guns. Then again it might be…

  • Whew, I’m glad to know that my memory is still intact. I ~thought~ this was the house with the huge red stiletto shoe by the front door. And behold, it IS!

  • Good taste…I has it.

  • This is really funny! Best laugh I’ve had in a while! Thanks for sharing, Swamplot.

  • That looks just like Brad Wesley’s house from “Roadhouse”.

  • missmsry, thank you for actually saying it. After someone clued me into a (not quite as gaudy) gypsy house in Spring Branch Woods, I had the same thought. I wonder what Johnny Costello is like…

  • KT said it best. I thought Tony Montana when I saw it too!

  • Gypsies!

  • i get to drive by it daily….
SO AWESOME…….i can only dream to live their…….

  • Lottery winners…

  • That is butt a– FUGLY!!!

  • Wow.
Awesome hiding place for that unlocked gun case “hiding” under the bed..
