What is sad is that all of Houston’s taxpayers will pay for one group of people’s disapproval to this project. All I can do is let me dog take a dump on every lawn of every house with a “stop ashby highrise” sign on their front yard.

How did the developers use “the intricacies of the city code to try to slip this by the neighborhood”? Local government entities create and enforce building codes/ordinances, a neighborhood does not perform those functions. As far as the actions by the city, my take is the developers are claiming selective enforcement of an archiac driveway location ordinance. Maybe a Swamplot contributer with knowledge of real estate law could provide some insight to the feasibility of the developers’ lawsuit?

The two “co-chairs” of “Stop Ashby” are partners at Vinson & Elkins and several of the other partners have quite a reputation for successfully representing plaintiffs in their suits against the government in condemnation cases. They probably could explain it. But probably wouldn’t dare. In this case, their usual arguments in county court would have to be completely reversed. So I doubt they will be “participating” in the case. The county court judges might sit there in total bewildrenment and worse ask
“but didn’t you say in this courtroom last month?” At least to themselves.
This lawsuit may be settled rather than pursued. Simply so no one gets a peek at how corrupt everything really is.
Same thing with the lawsuit against Wedge Group. Between that suit and this suit, Bill White’s political career could come to an end before it really began. Along with several others.
Beyond the real estate issues you also have the issue of harassment. That may be another lawsuit.
Sigh. It doesn’t automatically follow that one who files a lawsuit wins. Please hold the venom and glee until actual results are in. Please use spellcheck, as well.

And no doubt the Houston Chronicle will start running more stories about how the condo market and the apartment market has tanked in Houston. So the city can go to court and wave the Houston Chronicle in the air and tell the jury about how the city actually saved the poor developers from a fate worse than death.
Sybil Leek lived here years ago. When she fled back to Florida she made a comment about Houston being a karmic cesspool. Not sure about the karma part but from time to time it does remind one of a cesspool.
