Demolition crews wiping the West Loop-side slate clean of the recently vacated Micro Center computer store and its parking lot took a break over the weekend, allowing a brief interlude for views of dramatic, halted scene of destruction in Post Oak Park. Amegy Bank, which bought the property at 1717 West Loop South in March, plans to build a new headquarters office building for itself on the site after the computer outlet is unplugged.

The new Micro Center opened last month at 5305 S. Rice Blvd., just south of Westpark.

I went to the new Micro Center the other day. Other than being harder to get to, it was just as comfortingly drab and dreary, in the 90’s computer store way, on in the inside as the old location. Plus the guy who helped me had quite impressive product knowledge when confronted with my obscure video card question.
Yikes. See ya!
Hey, is that an OS/2 Warp CD under all that rubble?
All that’s missing is a giant commission sticker standing on top of the rubble from the dude who got the demo gig….
I’ll miss seeing the permanent display of dead tech company logos that greeted customers of the old place.
The old MicroCenter building was just another big box store in the Galleria area, but unkike others always had ample parking. The real treasure was the tech-savy sales force inside ….
Lets hope the new bank building planned this site is as memorable.
What will the new building / tower look like. Does anyone know?
