Bayou Place Turnover Now Complete

BAYOU PLACE TURNOVER NOW COMPLETE Curtain! The oldest tenant at Bayou Place downtown — and the only venue left from the original 1997 retail lineup at the revamped former Albert Thomas Convention Center — closed last week. Mingalone Italian Bar & Grill, with its balcony view of the Wortham Center plaza from across Texas Ave., had a 14-year run. Photo: Mingalone

  • The food was terrible. It tasted like Chef Boyardee. I’m surprised it stayed open as long as it did.

  • I know this is about the restaurant but regarding Albert Thomas Convention Center, when the Quilt Festival (held in October each year) outgrew the Shamrock Hotel, they did utilize the Thomas one year (maybe more, can’t remember). That was before the Brown Convention Center was built.

I never quite understood just why the Albert Thomas was not more successful.

  • Good riddance to Mingalone it was airport food and impersonal service at best. Hope the new tenant is a success!

  • Beautiful place, great location. Can’t wait to see what goes in next.

  • I’m not a believer in Bayou Place yet. I think the new tenants are going to struggle like the former tenants. Good luck guys.

  • Y’all can go to hell, their pizza was delicious.

  • I was in hell already and it was called Mingalone. And hell was served in the form of tiramisu with an entire corner that was solid mold…

  • Looking forward to the cinema opening. The Edwards is way more of a pain than parking downtown.

  • Suprised it stayed open this long. Never found anything I liked there.

  • My wife and I *LOVED* their butternut squash ravioli. I was less enthusiastic about other things I had there, but that dish alone was worth the trip downtown. We will miss Mingalone.

  • I really enjoyed my last visit to Mingalone, but that was in 1999 so I guess it doesn’t count for much!

  • ME FOUND A BARBIE TOE IN ME STEW THERE…. THEMS WOULDN’T LET ME WEAR ME ROLLER POPS INSIDE…. BYE BYE DIE MINGALONE DIE!
