6407 Seegers Trail, Cypress Creek, Houston, 77066

This 1981 Queen Anne-inspired property (just north of 249 at Beltway 8 and two blocks south of Bourgeois Rd.) lets you straddle the line between past and present— the exterior of the Cypress Creek home showcases Victorian-era architectural stylings, while more modern amenities pop up inside. Listed earlier this month for $185,000, the 2,116-sq.-ft. home has 3 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms, as well as a garage apartment, a pool, and a master suite with its own turret. Step onto the wrap-around porch and come inside for a tour:

These gold-colored turret-toppers were at long last delivered to the Hare Krishna Temple on 34th St. at Golf Ave. this week, reports a Swamplot reader who sent in photos. Construction on a new 24,000-sq.-ft. temple at the facility — scheduled to include a vegetarian restaurant inside — began in 2005. The Houston congregation of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness first moved into a former church at 1320 W. 34th St. in 1984. Two deities made out of brass — but which looked like they might be gold — were stolen from an altar at the temple last October. Here’s what the new building is supposed to look like when it’s finished:

COMMENT OF THE DAY: HOW A FORM-BASED CODE FOR BELLAIRE MIGHT WORK “In the interests of improving the community as a whole do you think it would be possible for the City of Bellaire to call a moratorium on the building of faux Tuscan McMansions? Or perhaps a number of turrets per home limit?” [Jimbo, commenting on Crossing That Thin Baby Blue Line]
