Hitting the market late last week in the neighborhoods of Meyerland and of $425,000: a groovy 1970s home a few doors down Lymbar Dr. from soon-to-be-renamed Johnston Middle School, northeast of the intersection of Willowbend Blvd. with Chimney Rock Dr. The living room of the 2,362-sq.-ft. house features a round concrete fireplace amid wood paneling and sealed brick floors; a shower-side planter setup makes appearances in the master suite’s bathroom.

Here’s the cantilevered porch and striped front door a the top of the home’s circular driveway:

  • Wow. Not only is it a cool house but it’s beautifully photographed too (including a light touch with the wide angle lens).

  • Omg I love it! I’d buy it if I could, wrong area though for me.

  • Ooh that fireplace! Like a smoochy set Mayan lips. Bring the sacraficial ball players!

  • Such a cool house.
    .
I can’t wait for it to be torn down for a McMonster or remolded with shaker cabinets, grey paint, and box store fixtures!

  • The furniture is groovy too.

  • This is the house Mr. Brady would have had if he could have gotten rid of those damn kids and wife.

  • That’s one very cool fireplace. Great mod house overall. Two things not to like thought. One is the IKEA light fixture over the dining table. The second is the cooking area where the stove is. How can anyone do any serious cooking, when it appears that there is no vent above the stove?

  • Much of this feels like looking at a time capsule. I can’t believe it survived with 70s style for so long. I love it!

  • I fortunately have been in the house before it went on the market…To MemorialBill, those are NOT Ikea light fixtures but original Noguchi!

  • Listing Realtor, maybe an open house? Don’t make me beg. …Ok, I’m begging! Please!!!

  • @MemorialBill – That’s not an “IKEA light fixture” over the dining table. That’s a vintage George Nelson bubble lamp, probably original to the house, if the other George Nelson in the entry hall is an indication.

  • This is without a doubt the Brady Bunch house of my dreams. Love all the little gardens inside.

  • The fixture over the table looks like a legit Nelson bubble to me. What a groovy house. Mod of the Month please!!!

  • Love it. The groovy wallpaper and that “garden shower” is the bomb. You can shower and commune with nature at t he same time. Grew up in Meyerland North ( the Gentile section- that’s what my Jewish friends called it ).

  • Great house, and I agree about the photography. And the fireplace is wonderful, even if it does look a bit like a urinal!

The only thing I don’t like is the granite in the kitchen — I may be the only person in the world who likes formica.
