The former Heights Finance Station post office at the corner of Heights Blvd. and 11th St. — its parking lot and front door face Yale St. — is coming down in a hail of lovingly painted bricks today. The post office was closed at the end of 2015 and subsequently purchased by developer MFT Interests. The single-story building was later festooned with an assortment of romance– and ZIP-code-themed murals.

MFT is calling the new development it has planned for the 1050 Yale St. site Heights Central Station. It’ll consist of two 2-story painted-brick buildings fronting 11th St.:

and have a parking lot and a drive-thru of some sort tucked behind, accessed on either side from Yale and Heights Blvd.:

A second location of the Kolache Shoppe (based in the Richmond Ave. strip center across from the Costco near Weslayan) is planned for development; a fourth location of restaurant Dish Society should take up the ground floor of the building closer to Yale St., pictured in the foreground of this view from the Yale-and-11th corner from the development’s architects, Kirksey:

  • Come out this Saturday to buy a brick between 12-4pm! Proceeds benefit the Houston Heights Association.

  • Looks more West Gray or Kirby than Heights Boulevard, but I’m just thankful to be getting multi-story zero-setback retail.

  • no one went to that post office any more anyways since the lines were so long.

  • YEZZZZZZZZZZ!!!! The Kolache Shoppe RAWKS! Best kolaches in Houston and now they’ll be right around the corner. This makes my pants tight (from eating too many kolaches).

  • LOL JoeDirt …. the irony!

  • Looks bive but hope it is not lingerie shops with sad mannequins and deflated balloons like the White Oak property they own….

  • Too bad copies of stores are coming in rather than something unique we could be proud of.

  • @Chrsity H–Katy is nice! You should check it out sometime. Out with the old and in with the new–your’re neighborhood is changing for the better. Get out!
