Expanses of lime carpet inside this 1971 contempo-mod home on a cul-de-sac just east of Wilcrest and south of Buffalo Bayou in Lakeside Forest look a bit like the front lawn on an otherwise woodsy lot. At least it did in the initial photos (top) of the listing, which made it to the market on Friday. Freshened-up photos added Tuesday focused more closely on the clean bones of the place, which has an asking price of $688,000. It’s not the block’s biggest home, but it sits on the largest lot: 32,592 sq. ft.

Among the townhome clusters built off Newcastle back in the eighties is this full-of-shutters one with front-loading driveway on one of the development’s interior, double-ended cul-de-sacs. Zoned to Bellaire schools, the 1981 property popped up on the market last week with a list price of $325,000.

A glowing (at least at dusk) example of Prairie School–style architecture by self-taught designer Richard S. Condon hugs the horizontal and hovers above the flatlands of Tanglewood. Its second level is almost entirely capped by casement windows. Condon passed away in January 2012. The residence on Doliver Dr. he built for himself in 1999 appeared on the market in March of this year, and has kept its asking price at a flat $3,260,000.

A pair of Houston artists have really spruced up what’s left of the interior of this former beauty parlor on Dowling St. in the Third Ward. Funded in part by the Houston Arts Alliance, reports Glasstire, Robert Hodge and Phillip Pyle II bought secondhand furniture, wallpaper, knick-knacks, framed photographs of JFK, MLK, Jr., and JC (Jesus Christ, that is) and a rug for this crumbling shell of a building at Dowling and Stuart near the Project Row Houses, turning it into an temporary installation they’re calling “Beauty Box.”

Even without the billowing sailcloth and Seussian shrubs accenting the double-height ceiling, a penthouse-level unit in downtown’s St. Germain condo mid-rise is a lofty space. Developer Randall Davis converted the former 1913 Kress & Co. building back in 1999. This bi-level corner unit appeared on the market in June with an asking price of $315,000. It last sold in June 2010 at $259,900.

Polishing the woodwork in this 1975 neo-Tudor in Champion Forest Champions Northwest might take a while. The property comes with a  6-pack of bedrooms, of bathrooms, and of fireplaces — as well as heaps of lumber in both structural and decorative forms, starting with the half-timbering (and other-half-bricking) out front.

A note to agents in the listing brags that the home made some sort of appearance in Architectural Digest when it was young — who wouldn’t want to see the indoor pool? It was put on the market 6 months ago, but the listing expired in mid-June. Now it’s back with a new agency but the same asking price: $1,399,000.
