In the Morgan’s Point Historic District, a 1997-vintage custom home’s water-view windows and width-of-house veranda (visible through the window in the top photo) provide vantage points for some relaxing Upper Galveston Bay surveillance. The waterway is likely to be full of passing activity; the Barbour’s Cut shipping terminal is nearby. The bayside property, designed by Bruce Conaway and built by John Wycoff & Associates, includes an updated 1900 carriage house, which sits closer to the street on this deep lot with a 103-ft.-long private beach and a 400-ft.-long shared pier.
Pansies in the planter and fresh paint inside and out help perk up a 1955 Willowbend Ranch-with-carport that’s been overhauled since its purchase in June 2013 for $205,000. The refreshed version — with new kitchen, tilework, landscaping, and pigment-coated brick — sprouted on the market earlier this month, asking $379,900. Is the redo worthy of a $174,900 lift?
Will it Flip?
It’s not exactly over the rainbow, but a tinted-window office over the garage of a 1959 property in Silber Terrace does catch a groovy UV glow. The ranch-style home morphed at some point into a live-work spread on an oversized, unrestricted lot fronting Antoine Dr.’s southbound lane north of I-10. Beyond the back yard’s treeline, Woodlawn Cemetery extends westward views. This mid-November listing comes with a $775,000 asking price.

Is the weight of the holiday season and its accompanying festoonage taking a toll on this updated 1929 home in East Montrose? Or was the polished-up property just under a lot of pressure (top) during its listing photo-op? The 3-bedroom, 2-and-a-half-bath property popped up on the market Sunday with a straight-up $840,000 price tag.
Decked Halls
Too late: Someone has already scooped up this house on Wild Ginger Ct., where the founder of The Woodlands, oilman George Mitchell, lived with his wife Cynthia Woods Mitchell from the the time it was constructed in 1983 until his death earlier this year (she died in 2009, but her pavilion lives on). The Grogan’s Mill property overlooking a portion of the golf course at the Woodlands Resort and Conference Center went up for sale quietly earlier this week and was put under contract Thursday. But the property’s still worth gawking at, if only to note our own reactions to a not-so-pretentious 2-story home nestled in the trees — and what it implies about the way the north-of-Houston community’s founder envisioned life there.
Empty Life Forms
When a shutterbug crosses a picket line, the results could look like this white-fenced, louver-loving 1920 cottage in Woodland Heights. The well-porched property is on its third run at the market in 5 months. This round, initiated earlier this week by a new agency, sets the price at $550,000. An initial listing of the corner lot cottage in July 2013 was priced at $635,000, though the ask was reduced to $599,000 a month later. A relisting in September floated a $575,000 price tag, but only for a month. (Way back in 1997, the home sold for $229,900.)

Among the cheek-to-jowl townhomes in the Willow Walk development, a 1983 Tudor-ed up unit exhibits blonde ambition in its choice of interior paneling, flooring, and trim (above). The 1-and-a-half-story Spring Shadows home squeezed its way into the market late last week. Its asking price is $275,000. (That doesn’t include any greens fees at the Pine Crest Golf Course across the street.)
Golden Glow

The pairing often indicates a Montrose-area address, as is the case with this custom 2003 contemporary with 3 levels of art-friendly living space currently devoted to an installation of frosty, over-sized life savers (above), among other works. The work-live-studio property, located near the Waugh bend in Hyde Park, rolled onto the market late last week. Price tag: $1.3 million.Â
