The operators of Fitzgerald’s and the Free Press Summer Fest are planning a large multi-venue development on N. Main St. on the east side of I-45. Renderings of 2 of the buildings, designed by a firm run locally by Rice architecture professor Troy Schaum, show a separate concert building with at least 2 separate stages inside and a freestanding ice house, which would be adjacent to a separate outdoor stage at the corner of N. Main and North St. The southern portion of the site (outlined in yellow in the map above) where those 2 structures would sit backs up to Little White Oak Bayou.

142 S. Tranquil Path Dr., Grogan's Mill, The Woodlands, Texas

You couldn’t have built a home like this secluded, sprawling number in a woodsy corner of the Grogan’s Mill section of The Woodlands without really liking bricks. The washed-brick exterior sets up against an expansive brick driveway set in a tightly woven herringbone pattern. Inside, lighter brickwork makes some sort of bricky statement in most rooms downstairs. The listing in mid-July, asking $2.395 million, wants you to know that the 2009 home drew inspiration from southern Louisiana; perhaps this explains the decorative or structural lagniappe worked into each room’s features.

Demolition of 2107 Milam St., Midtown, Houston

The vacant 2-story building at 2107 Milam St. in Midtown, which long ago was home to a President Health Club — but is likely better remembered as a blank-faced, boarded-up building with a for-sale sign on its corner — is being smashed to bits this morning. A reader sends in this view of the scene at Milam and West Gray St. taken from the Metro HQ building at 1900 Main St. The 14,975-sq.-ft. soon-to-be empty lot is next door to Central Square Plaza (at left in the photo), which is currently undergoing renovations. County records show a company called Hobby Place LLC purchased the smaller property in April.

Future Home of the Chicken Ranch Restaurant, 6500 N. Main St., Sunset Heights, Houston

Exactly where on N. Main St. are Josh Martinez and Paul Sedillo putting their new and provocatively named fried-chicken joint? The Chicken Ranch will open in the spot formerly occupied by Bellissimo Ristorante at 6500 N. Main, at the corner of 25th St. in Sunset Heights. (Bellissimo moved to 1848 Airline Dr., just north of Cavalcade, more than a year ago.) Reader Mary Ellen Arbuckle sends in these pics from yesterday of the car-packed front of the low-slung building, where the new occupants are working toward a certificate of occupancy for a fall opening. Sadly, former abc13 reporter Marvin Zindler will not be available for inspections or to monitor the contents of the Chicken Ranch’s ice machine.

Zelko Bistro, 705 E. 11th St., Houston Heights

The owners of Zelko Bistro have gone to court to try to prevent their landlord from locking them out, evicting them, or placing a “for lease” sign in front of the Heights restaurant. In a lawsuit and request for a temporary restraining order filed last Thursday, Zelko claims Papa K LLC  failed to honor a 5-year extension written into their lease for the property at 705 E. 11th St., which Zelko first took possession of in 2009 and subsequently spent approximately $600,000 to convert to a restaurant.

According to a copy of the lease included with the petition, Zelko had been paying $5,700 a month in rent, in addition to all property taxes; the term ended on June 30th. Emails between Zelko’s principals and its landlord included in the petition indicate Zelko’s interest in extending the lease in advance of the 90-day-advance-notice deadline, but a few days after that deadline had passed the landlord presented its tenants with a new lease including less favorable terms, including a 50 percent rent increase, according to the suit.

Other details in the court documents shed a bit of light on the goings-on Swamplot noted late last month, when a “for-lease” sign briefly appeared in front of the restaurant, and a broker representing the landlord announced that the restaurant would soon be leaving.

Who — or maybe what — was Ike and why does his tree get a namesake street in the Augusta Creek Pointe neighborhood in Spring? Sure, there was the notable hurricane by that name, but Ikes Tree Dr., which slices through the semi-shaded 64-lot section of The Creeks at Augusta Pines golf course community east of Kuykendahl Rd. and north of FM 2920, was in place by the beginning of 2008. The semi-custom, non-gated neighborhood’s model home, built by J. Kyle Homes in 2011, went onto the market this summer with a $409,563 asking price.

Metro Light Rail Train on Capitol St., Downtown HoustonNo, no one’s expecting Metro’s 2 new light-rail lines to open any sooner than late December (as Swamplot reported last week), but some progress toward that goal is now visible on portions of the East End and Southeast lines: “Live wire” or powered testing of the downtown tracks began this week. The photo at right, sent in by a reader, shows a Metro train moving unescorted along the tracks on Capitol St. for the first time.
