COMMENT OF THE DAY: GUIDELINES FOR BOVINE FLOOR DECOR Drawing of Cowhide Rug Outdoors“Apropos of nothing, is it normal to have a cow hide rug outside? I wouldn’t have one inside because they are gross, but it seems more egregious to have one outside. I am not sure why though, I mean the original owner of the hide was outside.” [OhMyPie; commenting on Townhome Complex Now Showing Off Amazing Views of Park Its Developers Were Fined for Clear-Cutting] Illustration: Lulu

12930 Memorial Dr., Memorial Plaza, Houston

12930 Memorial Dr., Memorial Plaza, HoustonA new listing features a new set of decorative delights gleaned from the interior of a Swamplot-reader Memorial Plaza favorite. Put on sale for a spell in 2011 at $1.5 million (without success), the big-windowed stucco home just outside the Beltway at 12930 Memorial Dr. returned to the market over this past weekend at a more au courant price of $2.25 million, accompanied by a set of what appear to be hastily snapped cameraphone photos — which, for the most part, do little justice to the many splendors of its occasionally indescribable furnishings. It last sold in 1998, for $196,500.

Could the crop of buildings forming downtown Houston’s skyline viewed from a rooftop terrace north of Avondale be the “garden” reference in a contemporary townhome 3-pack  dubbed “El Jardin Moderno?” Or maybe it’s the wispy palm trees that sharply mark the 2004 property’s portals? Or perhaps it’s the color use inside, where each level interprets a slice of the spectrum:

9751 Guest St., Glenwood Forest, HoustonAnd now, 6 words from a listing likely to soften the hearts of potential homebuyers everywhere: “Working hot tub in game room.” To which, for this 3-bedroom 1970 home in Glenwood Forest, we should append an additional 3-word phrase to help everyone understand the larger picture here: “Dinner is served.”
