Far into the woods of the Memorial Oaks section of Hunters Creek Village, a 1958 contemporary attributed to Houston architecture firm Neuhaus & Taylor seems to defy access. There is, however, a mini-driveway extending from a private road that peels off an equally discrete cul-de-sac street west of Wirt Rd. Originally, the secluded property also had ramps spanning the ravine lot’s “intermittent” stream bed of Briar Branch. Or so reported one of the daughters of the original owners in an online forum about 5 years back.
Bring Your Squeegee
Standing side by side and way, way back on their neighboring lot-ettes, mirror-image mini-mansions with mid and upper decks front Rodrigo Park in the Camp Logan area off Wescott near Memorial Park. The setback from the street and its drainage ditch leaves space for a ground-level front patio fenced at the dividing line. Earlier this week, the brick-and-stucco 2011 home on the right (top) was listed with a $1.295 million asking price.
Doubled Parking
It only took 3 days for a 13th floor condo unit with 2 slate terraces in Inwood Manor to go under contract — after being listed last week with a $995,000 asking price. Those who missed out have a few smaller options to consider elsewhere in the 16-floor beehive building of 110 units (top). A cast concrete tower designed by architect Harwood Taylor, the property has loomed over River Oaks and its hinterlands since 1962. A neighboring 13th floor 1-bedroom unit, furnished, is up for grabs as a lease starting April 1. And a couple smaller units on lower floors are still lingering, including one fitted as an office (above) by Houston interior design legend Herbert Wells, who died in 2010.
Unit Pricing
Things are looking up (and over) in a relisted 1983-built home in The Woodlands. An array of finishes clads the ceilings, and the bands of windows view the third hole and greenway of the Canongate Panther Trails golf course. Multi-textured and medallion-studded, the property considers itself “Spanish-inspired.” It’s back on the market after a January break following a previous 6-month listing. The price kept its pace steady, though, at $1.795 million.
Above It All

From the exterior, a midcentury modern in Meyerland looks much as it has for decades, reports a longtime admirer of the property. The 1965 home incorporates stone in many forms, from the dark craggy accents on its crushed-rock facade to the paved, no mow yard (top) interspersed with landscaped pods. And as of last Friday, when it debuted on the open market (for the first time in at least 20 years, according to a source), we can ogle its innards: There’s a pool tucked into the front of the footprint, so the entry doors open to an interior walkway past the water and ending at the door. The approach is on display from the step-down section of living space facing the poolscape through a broad wall of floor-to-ceiling windows.
Rocks in the Casbah
Taylor Lake is only part of the scene-setting found at this sprawling 1973 waterfront estate on a point of Seabrook’s El Lago Estates. While the lion’s share of the listing photos feature the tidy grounds and exterior’s grand-scaled impact, the interior delivers quite a cinematic cornucopia of thematic decor — and lighting, such as found in the fuchia glow of the Moulin Rouged bedroom pictured above. Scene it?

Ready to ride? Or perhaps wave at the fit folks passing by? The wraparound porch and upper balcony of a newly constructed home overlook the Heights Hike and Bike Trail. Listed a week ago at $948,000, the property tempers its somewhat public side with a more private porch in back.

Close-up photos take the lead in this listing of an updated 1946 Oak Forest home near Stevens Elementary School that appeared yesterday. Isn’t that all you need? They hint at the spaces present in the 1,000-ish-sq.-ft. floor plan . . .
It’s the Little Things
Nubbly textures abound in the interior of this 1960 Mod by Brenham architect Travis Broesche. The low-pitched presence in Meyerland popped up on the market Friday, just in time for an open house over the weekend; it has a $619,000 asking price.
Yowza
Stern & Bucek Architects designed this 2008 contemporary home for a mid-block double lot in Southampton. The site lent itself to a large, open-plan interior with many a view of the fire and water features found in the 3 courtyards behind the shade-dappled brick wall (above) marking the front yard’s setback . . .
Fire, Water, and a Staircase
When everyone gravitates to the kitchen (top) of this overhauled 1953 ranch-style home on Hewitt Dr. near T.C. Jester, there might actually be room for them. The opened-up prep space is just off the combo living-dining room, and there’s room for grilling out back, too. The listing appeared on the market last week with a $369,000 asking price. A 2012 attempt to sell the property — for $70K less — didn’t pan out. The home was renovated in 2011; the current owners purchased it in 2010 for $145,000. Welcome to Oak Forest!
Mid-sized Micro
A barn door and a side fence help define space for a Sunset Heights home, but neither appears to be a fixed feature. The interior’s barn door, for example, rolls into place to screen shut a bedroom otherwise open to the main hallway (at right). And beyond the side fence, there’s a vacant lot, but half of it belongs to this property. The souped-up straight-shot bungalow appeared on the market last week with a $475,000 asking price.
